Dr. Martens: fashion blast from the past

Fashion revivals from decades past are all around us. ‘50s mod dresses? Check. ‘80s off-the-shoulder, neon sweaters? Hot. Every season is a potpourri of old-school remixes. The grunge-filled ‘90s are no exception.

What screams ‘90s to me? Besides the juicy, drama-fuelled Brenda/Dylan/Kelly love triangle on the original Beverly Hills, 90210, I remember Dr. Martens shoes (which, I’m pretty sure, were featured on the show, too). The chunky look, the perfect sole stitching, and the bold colors.

The footwear of choice for Generation X.

It’s been a while since those glory days, but the brand never dropped off the radar. The company evolved just as fast as its consumer.

Doc Martens aren’t about what shoes young Hollywood’s wearing. Or about how much one should spend to make a statement. They’re about self-expression.

Today you have the luxury to express yourself like never before. Music. Facebook status. Pictures. Tweets. Fashion. You have a million ways to project your image. A million inspirations to choose from. And sometimes what you’re searching for has been right in front of you all along.

Dr. Martens. Event on now.

My boyfirend and I are both in school. I teach at a Catholic high school and I am attending an accelerated Masters program. My boyfriend is also a full time student, he offered to be laid off a year and a half ago in order to save two other people who were married with children from losing their jobs.He also volunteers several days a week as an EMT. Needles to say between my job, his volunteering and both of our course work we are short on both time and money. We try to make the most of our time together even if it is just studying together. We could definately use an excuse to put the books away for an evening and spend a we romantic night staying in and focusing on each other and not the outside world.

I really need to put the spark back in my relationship with my husband. The past seven years has been very challenging. My husband is a disable veteran due to a injury from his service in Iraq many times my husband was close to death but with the grace of God he is here to tell history and support other young veterans coming back injured. My life is very hectic, I work and go school full-time, support my church ministry by talking to trouble at risk young ladies which are incarenrated in juvenile facility, raising my teenager son and keeping him busy with sports and top it off taking care of my disable mother. As you can see I and my husband don’t have much time to get romantic but we will make great use of this gift and use some pharmaceutical prescribe medication to get things started. LOL!

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 3 years and it still feels like when we met each other in grade 8. Currently, he’s studying in Hamilton and I am teaching at a small private school. Both of us are young and living in GTA can be expensive, especially when my boyfriend is paying for his own tuition. With the low demands of public school teachers, it has been increasingly difficult for us have the money to do things together. Nevertheless, we love each other very much and enjoy each other’s presence. But money is a concern and we cannot do things like what other couples do: romantic dinners, vacation, or simply even a small trip away from the stress. Moreover, despite having a job, I am living at home with my family, and in this household there are 7 of us. 3 of us were in three different car accidents in a span of 2 months, and one of them was my father. Fortunately, he is fine, but is out of work due to injuries. My mother is now the only “bill payer” with her income. Therefore, a chunk of my money along with my younger sister’s money is dedicated to this family – to keep it working and make my father less worried (because he wants to work to provide money despite his injuries). With the amount I am making, and the expenses I have, I do not have money to pay for the activities and dinners I hope to have with my boyfriend since he is the one studying and I am the one working. This prize package would make a difference in our quality time as it helps us save some money in regards to activities we can do when we see each other twice a month.

Why do I need this? Because I am a full time student at the University of Alberta and I also work 5 times a week and act on top. I never get to spend any time with my anyone, even my significant other. Im always busy doing homework, school, work, acting, I dont even get to sleep in. I never get a day off.. In fact I have 2 midterms tomorrow in school and I can’t even celebrate valentines day because of it. =( Money has always been a concern for me, a guy i dated two years ago borrowed a lot of money and has left me in debt (needless to say I have learned my lesson), so I am still trying to work that debt off and can’t afford to really pamper myself. This prize package would give me a reason to take some much needed time off and be able to spend some quality time with my signifcant other while not spending money i don’t have!

My husband and I have been married for 39 years (40 on 4-24-11). We have 9 children, 3 young ones we adopted when they were infants (now 15-14-8). My husband and I both minister at a homeless ministry on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. He works through the week but gets off early to minister on Tuesdays, but job calls for a lot of driving. I work at home, so I can be home to help my three children with homework, which is another full-time job, especially with the youngest one. My husband is always bone tired when he gets home and justs wants to eat and go to bed. We just need time to spend quality time together. We rarely get time to spend alone, and this would be a grand invitation to a lovely evening out together. We’ll find a babysitter!

Me and my girlfriend have complete opposite schedules. We both work at night, and have completely different days off it’s been about 9 months since menand my girlfriend have had a whole day to spend together. And it’s been rough on our relationship, but we have been sticking it out. Something like this could help bring us together. And have a nice night to our selves.

Even though both my husband and myself work from home, we don’t want to fall into the trap of “you must go out for Valentines Day” We plan on spending the evening home together. I’ll cook our dinner and we’ll cuddle up with a movie and each other for the evening.

I would love this gift to celebrate valentines day with my husband. We have been married 19 years, but never had a honeymoon. Maybe some day is what we keep saying but time continues to tick on and plans are never made. Money is tight, I am off work now because of a neck injury but try to enjoy life as it comes. A night at home, no distractions, would be nice, and no hockey please, lol. Life just moves along, and things get put on hold, so a romantic evening at home………sounds wonderful.

My husband and I have 2 fantastic kids, Lola who is 1.5 and Grady who just turned 3. I am a stay at home mom, and my husband works a more than full time job. I’m trying to get back into shape, so each day, we both get up just after 5 am, and I head to the pool so that I can swim laps before my husband leaves for work. By the time I’m done and get home, he’s finished breakfast, and ready to leave, so we say goodbye, he heads out, and I get ready for the day. With my two small kids every day is very long. They are both wonderful, but they also both love to constantly test their boundaries. Our normal ‘house’ routine is, once I’m ready they get up, we have breakfast, then either clean one area of the house, or every other day we go to the play gym, and then I run laps with them after, while they yell ‘faster’ from the double stroller I’m pushing. There is always play or dance time, then it’s time for lunch. After lunch, if I’m lucky, Lola will sleep for about 1.5 hours, while Grady and I try to get laundry done, or one of the many other things that need to be done. Once Lola’s up, it’s learning time, where we color, work on letters or numbers or something else educational, and we go for a walk, before the three of us cook supper together. My husband is usually home by 6, so we all eat together before bath, story and snack time and they’re hopefully in bed by 8, when we both fall on to the couch exhausted and are hardly able to carry on a conversation we’re so tired. This is what it’s like every day, with added in doctor visits, or other appointments, or shopping that needs to get done. Every day is different, but somehow the same, and both of us really need a break from it. We love our family, and are happy, but are forgetting how to spend quality time together (our quality time usually involves sleeping – at least we both talk in our sleep, so converse then!!!). Anything where we can spend some time together is fantastic, it’s just getting the energy to put it together. Who knows…. maybe I’ll even send the kids to my parents to make it extra special!

My fiance and I celebrated our first anniversary together this past Friday. We met online, and only met in person for 7 days out of the year. He lives in Vancouver and I live in Toronto and our long distance relationship has had so many hiccups as a result. We send each other text messages daily, talk via phone or skype at least thrice a week. We even send each other snail mail and I’ve started collecting all the beautiful poetry he has been writing me and collating it by the date and time it was sent. Whenever I miss him I read the beautiful lines he has written me but it only makes me miss him even more. It is costly for him to keep coming here and also quite a distance — 4 hours by air. The next time we will see each other will be the week right before my wedding, which is in June. I would like to savor every moment of our alone time together, even if for a few hours. We have done practically everything online, we booked our plane tickets online, bought my gown and his suit online, bought my engagement ring online, etc. My wish is to spend one romantic evening with my fiance before we get married.
