“Stencil garments are transformed through several handcrafted treatments to achieve their vintage look and feel. They will maintain their appearance no matter how many times they are washed.”- Stencil

Q&A with Flare’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa Tant

Flare magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa Tant answers our questions about fashion and trends. Be sure to check out her weekly fashion choices for BTR, starting today August 3rd!

Q: What is a big trend you see for end of summer/pre-fall?

A: I love all of the colour that we’ve seen over the past year, and that’s continuing into fall and winter. Colour blocking is a major trend. The fearless will do it head-to-toe (think of a cobalt blue jacket with a fuchsia silk blouse and orange trousers) while others can pair one bright piece (such as a pink skirt) with a white T-shirt.

Q: Young Hollywood: who’s a starlet we should be looking out for in terms of style?

A: There are several young starlets whom I look forward to seeing on the red carpet – Hailee Steinfeld, Mila Kunis, the Fanning sisters and Jennifer Lawrence. My favourite is Carey Mulligan. She seems to really love different fashion and takes chances with silhouettes and labels including Prada.

Q: Our shoppers love updating their bag collection. What’s a staple style you would suggest?

A: This season, I’ll be picking up an oversized envelope clutch. It’s not the most practical but it will force me to pare down to my essentials.

Q: Let’s talk footwear. Can you fill us in on a fresh new style you see on the runway?

A: The classic Mary Jane was all over the runways – in multi-coloured leathers, python and velvet.

Q: What is a fashion faux-pas you see time and time again?

A: I hate seeing office shoes worn with a cocktail dress. It’s worth investing in one good pair of evening shoes – patent leather works from day to night and dresses up any evening look from a little black dress to a tuxedo suit.

Fall 2011 fashion preview

There are two kinds of people this time of year.

Those who can’t wait for fall and those who are soaking up every last second of sunshine.

Ease into the transitional season at your own pace. No need to bring out the knee-high boots and furry outfits just yet. Incorporate a few key pieces and make the change effortless and uber-fashionable.

Wild for wedges
Marc by Marc Jacobs

The wedge trend appears to be spilling into fall from summertime. Crank up the height and the fashion in a killer new pair. Store away the bright or sandy styles and opt for a deeper shade, like these by Matisse. Fierce, strong, and oh-so now.

Jimmy Choo
Lady in black

Fashionistas know that black is never boring when done right. Jimmy Choo showcases a youthful appeal with its stars and studs. For a more affordable alternative that packs as much punch, check out this style by Navoh. When it comes to purchasing your new fall bag, my one suggestion is this: go big or go home.

Loud prints
Duro Olowu

Make a statement with bold, shows-topping prints. While you might think of going dark for fall, these fancy pieces show that we can have a nice bright outlook if we choose to. This electric dress by Blue Plate is reserved for the most daring lady who is certainly not afraid of a little attention.

Spectacle-style sunglasses
Ralph Lauren

These round styles have a cool retro feel to them and have been spotted on celebrities all around Hollywood. The Carrera frames are not too bold, and would suit many face shapes. For the hipster with an enviable sense of style, these shades are where it’s at.

These luscious items prove that fall doesn’t have to be dreary or demure. Autumn often symbolizes new beginnings and a fresh start. Fashion is the ultimate reinvention tool. Who do you want to be this season?
