Q&A with Flare’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa Tant

Flare magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa Tant answers our questions about fashion and trends. Be sure to check out her weekly fashion choices for BTR, starting today August 3rd!

Q: What is a big trend you see for end of summer/pre-fall?

A: I love all of the colour that we’ve seen over the past year, and that’s continuing into fall and winter. Colour blocking is a major trend. The fearless will do it head-to-toe (think of a cobalt blue jacket with a fuchsia silk blouse and orange trousers) while others can pair one bright piece (such as a pink skirt) with a white T-shirt.

Q: Young Hollywood: who’s a starlet we should be looking out for in terms of style?

A: There are several young starlets whom I look forward to seeing on the red carpet – Hailee Steinfeld, Mila Kunis, the Fanning sisters and Jennifer Lawrence. My favourite is Carey Mulligan. She seems to really love different fashion and takes chances with silhouettes and labels including Prada.

Q: Our shoppers love updating their bag collection. What’s a staple style you would suggest?

A: This season, I’ll be picking up an oversized envelope clutch. It’s not the most practical but it will force me to pare down to my essentials.

Q: Let’s talk footwear. Can you fill us in on a fresh new style you see on the runway?

A: The classic Mary Jane was all over the runways – in multi-coloured leathers, python and velvet.

Q: What is a fashion faux-pas you see time and time again?

A: I hate seeing office shoes worn with a cocktail dress. It’s worth investing in one good pair of evening shoes – patent leather works from day to night and dresses up any evening look from a little black dress to a tuxedo suit.
