Q&A with Fashion and Blog Editor of Fashion Hippo

Fashion Hippo is the ultimate blog for fashion mavens who crave up-to-the-minute news in everything fashion.

You’ll get the inside scoop on the styles of the season, amazing products, hot celeb trends, and most importantly, where to go for discounts. The blogger says herself ,“Let’s be honest ladies, a great fashion find is as rare as a pair of Louboutins on sale.” (Unless you’re a member of Beyond the Rack, of course).

If you’re overwhelmed by all the fashion in cyberspace, Fashion Hippo can simplify your online surfing/shopping experience.

Q: What inspired you to write a fashion blog and call it Fashion Hippo?

A: www.fashionhippo.com was born to help urbanistas save time, shop smart, and stay in-the-know about fashion trends, innovative products, and revolutionary brands. We spend a lot of time researching products, interviewing designers, and listening to web buzz to bring our readers the best of the best so they can browse their category and quickly find what they need, whether it is the best of the day’s sample sales or chic holiday gifts.

The name Fashion Hippo came from the belief that every woman can be as beautiful and fashionable as she wants to be. Hippo and fashion is an atypical match, but with enough desire and perseverance a hippo can wear fashionable things that work for her, make her unique, and ultimately turns her into a fashion maven.

Q: How has Fashion Hippo influenced your style and the way you think about clothes?

A: I believe that I speak for myself and our writers, but because we research trends before they hit the stores and the streets, we get fired up about the upcoming trends earlier, but also get over the trends a lot quicker compared to the mainstream.

Q: What is the one essential item in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?

A: I love my Rock & Republic relaxed cut jeans and turn to them when I need to get out of the house in a quick second.

Q: How would you describe your sense of style? And where do you find your style inspiration?

A: Classic modern with a twist. I feel most stylish and “together” in tailored Italian pieces, such as my 7 year old tailored black-fitted coat from Dolce and Gabbana, and a classy Moschino dress with a full chiffon skirt that falls above the knee. I also love a sheer top that shows off bra contours, but somehow makes it appear sexy-appropriate. And I’m into killer platforms and strappy shoes.

Q: What are some tips on putting an outfit together?

A: Never follow what someone else wears. Identify your strong assets and find pieces that accentuate them.

Q: If you had an empty wardrobe and had to start with nothing, what would be the first 5 things you would buy?

A: High but wearable platforms, flattering jeans, layering tops, a killer purse, a well-fitting jacket for winter, or an asymmetrical drape cardi for spring and summer.

Q: Christmas is right around the corner and is all about finding that perfect gift for your loved ones. What are some tips on must-have gifts for the holidays?

A: Other than shopping smart and saving on gifts at Beyond the Rack? We just wrote an article about Cool and Affordable Gifts for the holidays. Check it out. And shop earlier, while there are plenty of choices and it’s before the holiday craziness kicks in.

Q: Your blog talks about 15 fashion predictions, can you tell us 1 macro prediction?

A: We believe that shopping online will continue getting streamlined and innovative companies will emerge that will offer a simple way to navigate to the product you need and get it at the best price without having to scout a ton of product reviews, sales, and social network pages. They will derive the data from the same online sources, analyze it, and present it to the customer in a simple and meaningful way. Online shopping is a great way to shop without any interruptions!

Q: What are your favourite things to buy online?

A: Pretty much everything at Beyond the Rack. The prices are great.
