Best In Shoe – Trend Watch 2012

Shoe addicts – you asked us for more options, and we’re more than happy to oblige. Today, we have a group of events catered to those of us who can never have too many pairs.

The wedge started out as a trend, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Added height, minus the teetering around on a pin-thin heel makes this one solid style. Visit Wedging Out for a wide array of wicked wedges.

Platform Perfection is aimed at those fierce females who like themselves (and their fashion choices) to stand above the rest. Browse this event for the pretty platforms that make sure every entrance is a grand one.

Riding Boots

There’s something inherently elegant and refined about the classic riding boot. Many brands have interpreted it, choosing to stay with the iconic silhouette, or give it a modern update. See both sides (and everything in between) at Riding In Style.

The New Year Shape-Ups event is cut out for those trying to get into better shape. Sporting these sneaks improves posture and circulation, reduces joint stress, and provides an extra kick for your muscles. Resolution to get into better shape? Check!

Dare to rock bold footwear

We think it’s safe to say you don’t need another pair of black boots. This year, shake things up a bit and pick up some bold and beautiful shoes. Stop drooling over the artistic creations you find in fashion magazines – it’s super affordable to get stunner styles. Shop the Red Kiss and Two Lips events to find your new ‘sole’ mate.

Embrace your shape

So you vowed to work out more and eat healthy this year? Great. And with some quality shapewear, you’ll look sensational every step of the way. Wear the pieces under that tight black dress or any outfit that demands a sleek silhouette. Stop by the Siluet and Intimidea and Sassybax events to be on your way to a superstar body.

Wear statement jewelry

Remember how much fun it was going through your mother’s jewelry box? Somewhere along the way, we lost that passion for playing dress-up. While understated studs and pearls will remain classics, some outfits call for a little more drama. A vivid necklace, a knockout cocktail ring, and glistening hoops, par exemple. Have a look at Fashion Victime‘s assortment.

Pick up a luxurious watch

If you haven’t worn a watch in years, now is the time to rethink your wrist situation. A dazzling watch can add instant glamour to your look. Whether you’re a golden gal, a diva who loves diamonds, or a silver belle, there’s a killer watch waiting for you. Stop by the Premium Watch Event and the European Fine Watch Boutique for some inspiration.

Stand out in wild prints

Add some wild prints to the mix and have some fun. 2012 is your year to take some fashion risks. Gone are the days of simplistic style and monochromatic clothing. Check out the Pattern Play events to mix and match to your heart’s content. Psychedelic baby, yeah!

Q&A with financial expert and Editor-in-Chief of Nicole Lapin

Thankfully, many brands are now offering more affordable alternatives that get you 9-5 chic. And with a little expert guidance from Nicole Lapin, you’ll have all the tools necessary.

Famed as the youngest anchor on CNN and CNBC, Nicole Lapin is here to help you get office-chic in a heartbeat. Look for her icon January 3-10 to shop top career wear picks – all for under $100.

Stop by the blog to get some advice on shopping, finance, and so much more. Read the Q&A and get inspired to revamp your office look!

Q: Tell us about your blog What inspired you to create it?

A: With the economy tanking again, I felt an urgent need to provide accessible financial content to the ladies out there who found themselves smiling and nodding — wanting to be part of the global financial conversation but having difficulty finding financial topics in language that was fun, and easy to understand. Recessionista is for ladies who want to be frugal but still fabulous during the recession — because after all you can be both!

Q: We love the section of your blog “Lessons from the editor.” What’s a style lesson you’d like to share with BTR shoppers?

A: Don’t wear shoulder pads, no matter what anyone tells you. Ever. I learned that one the hard way.

Q: Let’s talk office style. What tips can you give our members who want to dress appropriately and fashionably while they are on a budget?

A: Who makes your clothing is less important than how well it fits. Instead of being drawn into a designer-only closet, invest in a good tailor to give your clothing a smart, fitted look. And of course, leave the backless numbers and sequins at home: fitted garments are much classier (while still flattering) for the workplace.

Q: What wardrobe staples do you think every career woman should have in her closet?

A: Keep it simple. You really only need a few key wardrobe elements to look professional and fashionable at work. Invest in a white tailored shirt, a comfortable and stylish pair of black pumps, and a few fitted dresses for a look that’s pulled together with minimal thought and effort for a gal on the go! Punch up your basics with fun accessories, like a colorful pair of studs or a metallic belt.

Q: What have you learned fashion-wise when you worked as a CNBC news anchor? Was your TV style similar to your personal style?

A: I’m an LA lady, so my personal style consists mainly of a good fitting pair of jeans, flip flops, and anything nautical. But I’ve simplified my TV style over the years (remember the aforementioned shoulder pads) in favor of easy dresses (DVF shifts are my favorite) and classic black or beige pumps.
