Oscars 2012 Fashion Roundup

If you’re anything like us, you spent last Sunday riveted to your TV screen or glued to your computer, anticipating what all the celebs would be wearing to the Academy Awards, and the parties afterward. This year, we were not disappointed.

At the main event, elegance (as well as Angelina Jolie’s leg) prevailed, with many relying on the impact of color, fit, cut, construction, and details rather than sex appeal. There weren’t any looks that were too outrageous (Bjork’s swan dress, anyone?), either. However, several starlets opted for a wardrobe change, slipping into a second, racier ensemble for the party circuit.

The carpet was red, but that wasn’t the only color to make its mark. Here are the others that stood out:

White Hot: Choosing a white dress places the wearer at center stage, with the focus on their accessories, hair, and makeup. We’re fans of the cool chic of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford dress and cape, which had been shown on the runway just weeks before.

Seeing Red: There’s no mistaking it: red ruled Oscar Night. Many chose to make this bold style statement. With her red strapless peplum dress by Louis Vuitton, Michelle Williams looked both on-trend and ‘smokin hot.

True Blue:  This serene shade had a strong presence on the red carpet. Everyone who sported it kept their silhouettes simple, letting the sophisticated, elegant color speak for itself. Just take a look at Best Actor winner Jean Dujardin’s wife, Alexandra Lamy.

Green With Envy: A green gown is a great way to stand apart from the pack, while not being too ‘look at me’. We’re envious over Glenn Close’s fresh-off-the-runway Zac Posen creation.

Blackout: Black is always a red carpet favorite for its dramatic effect. We’re loving the hand-sewn detailing on Jessica Chastain’s Alexander McQueen gown, and her soft hair and makeup as well.

Heavy Metal: With so many stars in attendance, it’s no wonder some want to shine. From gold and silver to copper, ladies in sparkly stunners were prevalent. Stacey Keibler looked ravishing Fall/Winter 2012 Marchesa, and we’re charmed by The Office’s Ellie Kemper’s unique Armani Privé look.

Who do you think stole the show?
