Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week 2014

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week comes to a close today and what a week it was! Unlike the seasonal Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer fashion weeks, this event gives major designers creative carte blanche. It is the laboratory of the fashion world. The styles are more artistic and experimental, but are certainly the crème de la crème of haute couture!

Let’s take a look at some of our favorite runways:

Armani Prive:

Shorts were a building block around this collection, as well as the color red. He paired shorts with fabulous haute jackets, often in red and black. Another key look of his collection was a netted head and torso. Models graced the catwalk with what looked like galaxies floating around their heads. The netting created an industrial/futuristic vibe.

Chanel:

The word couture implies “cutting” and “seaming”, there was none of that in this show. Everything was molded rather than seamed, making it “Haute Couture” without the “Couture”. The collection became Karl Lagerfeld’s playground as he mixed baroque with severe austerity. Once again, like Armani, we also saw silhouettes modeled after shorts.

Julien Fournie:

Ornate headpieces were par for the course here. Bold, chandelier-like creations swayed on the heads of models. Julien Fournie’s haute couture house only launched in 2009, but still his collection rubbed shoulders with the older, established fashion houses to great aplomb. On the brink of launching his first ready-to-wear line, he presented six looks from the line; something different for Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Jean Paul Gaultier:

The models on the Gaultier runway were striking in their pale, vampy pallor. The theme for the collection this year was very dark and almost gothic. His more inventive designs included sheer fabric, capes, and overall predatory sex appeal.
