When it comes to mastering your casual-cool athletic style, you can trust BTR fashion expert and publicist Lori Krebs. Whether she’s gifting celebs at the Golden Globes Gifting Suite, or being featured on hit shows like Good Day LA, EXTRA, and Entertainment Tonight, she keeps informed on what’s hot this minute.
That’s why we can’t wait to check out her top picks from the Athletic Inspiration events, starting February 8th, at 11 a.m. ET!
We also sat down with Lori to get the inside scoop on what makes for amazing sporty style and to find out what’s the ultimate fashion faux-pas.
Q: Today’s Athletic Inspiration events feature everything from workout wear to sporty-chic clothing. What’s your favorite athletic look?
A: My all-time favorite athletic look has to be Tom Brady! Just kidding. In terms of active wear, black leggings are my ultimate go-to staple. A good cotton/spandex pair are key. I love anything lightweight and comfortable – tops, tanks, dresses. When you feel good, you look good. I truly believe that.
Q: You’ve met so many celebs while promoting BTR in Hollywood. Which star’s style do you admire and why?
A: I’ve seen many celebs in very interesting get-ups. Most recently, I bumped into Kim Kardashian wearing high-waisted tweed pants – so passé…nonetheless, she still looked beautiful. I have to say – I’ve met Kate Bosworth multiple times and each time she looks better than ever. She’s got this effortless approach to style that I admire. She doesn’t overdo it – I appreciate that given the fact that she’s in the spotlight 24/7.
Q: We’ve all seen those candid shots of celebrities looking great on their way to the gym. Which accessories would you suggest to help someone look fresh instead of frumpy?
A: Do you notice why these celebs look so great after leaving the gym? It’s all about the accessories! Whether it’s Jessica Alba or Halle Berry, your favorite stars are constantly covered behind trendy frames to mask their flush faces. A chic pair of shades are a great investment piece. A comfortable and stylish pair of running shoes and a trendy tote bag for the gym are also a must! A fun tote is a great alternative to a bulky gym bag.
Q: How would you describe your personal style and what are your go-to brands?
A: Laid-back and comfortable. I’m at many events that require me to dress the part, so when I’m in the office or at home, I enjoy keeping my style relaxed. If you catch me on the weekend, I would probably be spotted wearing black leggings, black leather buckle boots with a billowy sweater and scarf. At the moment, I can’t get enough of my Fiorentini & Baker buckle boots – we actually sell many similar versions at BTR. The majority of my clothing is from BTR from brands like RD Style, La Classe Couture, BCBG, JBrand….I can go on and on…
Q: Since you’re always on the road, can you share some packing tips with us? What fashion essentials are a must?
A: Do not over pack! I used to do it and I have finally learned! Packing your entire wardrobe is so overwhelming. Having too many choices is exhausting. Make sure to pack the essentials like a fabulous oversized handbag, a few fun scarves – nothing polishes up your look better, and a pair of black pumps that you can throw on for last-minute meetings or events. Okay, you can pack your favorite pair of jeans and a couple tops too, but keep in mind that you can always buy something wherever you are, if you really do need it.
Q: What’s your top fashion faux-pas?
A: Double denim should be a crime! I came across a photograph of Katie Holmes sporting dark wash jeans with a lighter wash denim button-down. I remember this being a huge trend in the 90’s – and that’s where I’d like to leave it! I keep my outfit to one denim item only.

There’s no denying the importance of the little black dress; it’s slimming, flattering, and timeless. But if you’re getting amped for the latest spring looks, we suggest pumping up the volume with a more vivid style.
Steal the Night boasts an impressive collection of styles that complement your killer curves. For the full-figured gal with confidence. Va-va-voom!
Spring Fever is not for the faint-hearted. Look for exotic animal patterns, sexy cuts, and tropical hues. A must-see for the modern day wild child.
Ripe and more is ideal for the girl next door who loves sweet and feminine fashions. Have some fun with floral patterns and girly frills. You’ll be too cute to miss!
First Look at Spring is for the timeless beauty who loves clean cuts and a more modest hemline. She loves being a lady and looks for pieces that she can wear for years to come. Think Charlotte from Sex and the City.
Peruse all the dress events and find the dazzler that’s calling your name.
Awards season is in full effect thanks to Sunday night’s 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, where Hollywood’s heavy hitters emerged in their couture finest.
Ricky Gervais’ comedy routine was tamer than last year’s, but still had enough shock value to entertain the celebrities who waited uncomfortably for their names to be mentioned. But alas, it’s hard to feel bad for A-listers like George Clooney and Angelina Jolie.
Speaking of Angelina, her Atelier Versace dress was a hit across the board. Countless celebs wrote about how stunning she looked, including Bethenny Frankel, who tweeted, “Brad and Angelina: Winning. Game Over. Why did anyone else even show up?” Kendra Wilkinson also jumped on the Brangelina train with this tweet, “So I just saw a pic of Angelina Jolie @ golden globes n I’m obsessed.”
More standout looks of the night:
Selma Hayek, who dazzled in a shimmering Gucci dress.
Kate Beckinsale showed off her enviable figure in a strapless Roberto Cavalli gown.
Bradley Cooper looked suave and elegant in a black satin notch lapel tuxedo by Tom Ford.
Emma Stone was divine in Lanvin. The dress was in two shades of berry and featured a statement belt.
The stylish lovebirds:
George Clooney wore a classic Giorgio Armani tuxedo and his beautiful girlfriend Stacy Keibler wowed in a long Valentino gown with a cute bow detail on the back.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in his three-piece Ferragamo suit made everyone starstruck.
Good looking couple alert: Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan were the picture of fresh red-carpet style. Jenna’s electric sea green Maria Lucia Hohan dress really made her stand apart from the rest.
Is your home starting to look like it should be featured on A&E’s TV show Hoarders and less like the home of your dreams? Let’s make clutter a thing of the past. While you might have your reasons for keeping the collage you made in grade school, maybe it’s best to store it away and make room for something fresh and modern.
At BTR home, we want you to enjoy your abode as much as possible. That’s why from January 14-20 we’re featuring events that allow you to get organized in style.
5 ways to tidy up your space:
Make friends with storage solutions
If you really don’t want to part with old souvenirs, trinkets, or presents, you can store them away in these functional storage solutions. You can also use them to organize your clothes, shoes, accessories, and so much more. A bonus? You’ll find what you’re looking for that much faster.
Start with one section at a time
Instead of saying “I’m going to organize my entire house in one day,” start with smaller sections. Maybe today you’ll redo your closet (and get rid of clothes you haven’t worn since 2003) and tomorrow can be laundry room day. Getting organized doesn’t have to be daunting. You can do it!
Try a minimalistic approach
There’s no reason for everything you own to be put on display. Simply showcase what you really want shown (picture frames, artwork, etc) and store away the rest. Invest in quality décor that you’ll keep for years to come. You’ll be amazed at how much more inviting your home will be.
Transform your office space
Whether you always work from home or only from time to time, you need your home office to be tidy. Find all the files, folders, and items you need to get work done. There’s nothing more unsightly (or overwhelming) than a table stacked with papers. Add a dash of personality with stylish bookends and wall clocks.
At the end of the day, your home (aside from keeping a roof on your head) is a reflection of your style and personality. If it’s not currently projecting the image you want, there’s no better time than now to make some changes.
Beyond the Rack is presently at GBK’s Golden Globes Gift Lounge at L’Hermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills. We’ll be there today and tomorrow gifting the nominees as well as other celebrities!
Gifts include some of our fave clothing from top brands Triple 5 Soul, Coupe, Dex, My Tribe, and more.
Here’s the inside scoop on our celebrity sightings so far:
It seems like Soho House is the place to be!
On the night of The People’s Choice Awards, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were spotted there. Kristen was her usual quiet self and Rob was partying and having fun. John Stamos was there too, looking as good as can be. He was sporting a black V-neck with layered necklaces. John Mayer was dressed super casual in fleece sweatpants and his hair in ponytail. He left alone in his Porsche SUV. Kim Kardashian was seen having lunch at Barney Greengrass Restaurant. She was chatting away on her cell phone!
Now that 2012 is in full effect, have you given any thought to your wardrobe resolutions? Go ahead – try on those extreme heels. Accessorize with bling that would make Jennifer Lopez jealous. Put your most fashionable foot forward – at these epic prices, your other resolution to save money will be easy as pie.
Dare to rock bold footwear
We think it’s safe to say you don’t need another pair of black boots. This year, shake things up a bit and pick up some bold and beautiful shoes. Stop drooling over the artistic creations you find in fashion magazines – it’s super affordable to get stunner styles. Shop the Red Kiss and Two Lips events to find your new ‘sole’ mate.
Embrace your shape
So you vowed to work out more and eat healthy this year? Great. And with some quality shapewear, you’ll look sensational every step of the way. Wear the pieces under that tight black dress or any outfit that demands a sleek silhouette. Stop by the Siluet and Intimidea and Sassybax events to be on your way to a superstar body.
Wear statement jewelry
Remember how much fun it was going through your mother’s jewelry box? Somewhere along the way, we lost that passion for playing dress-up. While understated studs and pearls will remain classics, some outfits call for a little more drama. A vivid necklace, a knockout cocktail ring, and glistening hoops, par exemple. Have a look at Fashion Victime‘s assortment.
Pick up a luxurious watch
If you haven’t worn a watch in years, now is the time to rethink your wrist situation. A dazzling watch can add instant glamour to your look. Whether you’re a golden gal, a diva who loves diamonds, or a silver belle, there’s a killer watch waiting for you. Stop by the Premium Watch Event and the European Fine Watch Boutique for some inspiration.
Stand out in wild prints
Add some wild prints to the mix and have some fun. 2012 is your year to take some fashion risks. Gone are the days of simplistic style and monochromatic clothing. Check out the Pattern Play events to mix and match to your heart’s content. Psychedelic baby, yeah!
While we might wonder what it’s like to go to work in a gorgeous Chanel tweed suit, most of us have to be a bit more frugal. Thankfully, many brands are now offering more affordable alternatives that get you 9-5 chic. And with a little expert guidance from Nicole Lapin, you’ll have all the tools necessary.
Famed as the youngest anchor on CNN and CNBC, Nicole Lapin is here to help you get office-chic in a heartbeat. Look for her icon January 3-10 to shop top career wear picks – all for under $100.
Utilizing her unique and conversational communication style, Nicole has made a name for herself anchoring breaking news coverage. The smart beauty has also launched a must-read blog, Recessionista.com. The site is great for women who want to learn creative ways to look like a million bucks without breaking the bank.
Stop by the blog to get some advice on shopping, finance, and so much more. Read the Q&A and get inspired to revamp your office look!
Q: Tell us about your blog Recessionista.com. What inspired you to create it?
A: With the economy tanking again, I felt an urgent need to provide accessible financial content to the ladies out there who found themselves smiling and nodding — wanting to be part of the global financial conversation but having difficulty finding financial topics in language that was fun, and easy to understand. Recessionista is for ladies who want to be frugal but still fabulous during the recession — because after all you can be both!
Q: We love the section of your blog “Lessons from the editor.” What’s a style lesson you’d like to share with BTR shoppers?
A: Don’t wear shoulder pads, no matter what anyone tells you. Ever. I learned that one the hard way.
Q: Let’s talk office style. What tips can you give our members who want to dress appropriately and fashionably while they are on a budget?
A: Who makes your clothing is less important than how well it fits. Instead of being drawn into a designer-only closet, invest in a good tailor to give your clothing a smart, fitted look. And of course, leave the backless numbers and sequins at home: fitted garments are much classier (while still flattering) for the workplace.
Q: What wardrobe staples do you think every career woman should have in her closet?
A: Keep it simple. You really only need a few key wardrobe elements to look professional and fashionable at work. Invest in a white tailored shirt, a comfortable and stylish pair of black pumps, and a few fitted dresses for a look that’s pulled together with minimal thought and effort for a gal on the go! Punch up your basics with fun accessories, like a colorful pair of studs or a metallic belt.
Q: What have you learned fashion-wise when you worked as a CNBC news anchor? Was your TV style similar to your personal style?
A: I’m an LA lady, so my personal style consists mainly of a good fitting pair of jeans, flip flops, and anything nautical. But I’ve simplified my TV style over the years (remember the aforementioned shoulder pads) in favor of easy dresses (DVF shifts are my favorite) and classic black or beige pumps.
