Tomasz Rut comes to BTR home

Listed in the Robb Report’s Best of the Best issue as one of the five most collectible living artists, Tomasz Rut creates captivating, resplendent works of art that mainly showcase mythological figures, animals, and the human form. BTR home is proud to be featuring them today.

Art lovers are undoubtedly already familiar with him, but for those who aren’t, here are a few accolades that speak to his level of success and mastery: in 2011, his work was blessed by Pope Benedict XVI, and was included in the Vatican’s art collection, and when working on custom home interiors, he was hired by the late Gianni Versace. Need we say more?

Shop the Tomasz Rut event, and bring a modern Baroque masterpiece into your home.

Oscars 2012 Fashion Roundup

If you’re anything like us, you spent last Sunday riveted to your TV screen or glued to your computer, anticipating what all the celebs would be wearing to the Academy Awards, and the parties afterward. This year, we were not disappointed.

At the main event, elegance (as well as Angelina Jolie’s leg) prevailed, with many relying on the impact of color, fit, cut, construction, and details rather than sex appeal. There weren’t any looks that were too outrageous (Bjork’s swan dress, anyone?), either. However, several starlets opted for a wardrobe change, slipping into a second, racier ensemble for the party circuit.

The carpet was red, but that wasn’t the only color to make its mark. Here are the others that stood out:

White Hot: Choosing a white dress places the wearer at center stage, with the focus on their accessories, hair, and makeup. We’re fans of the cool chic of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford dress and cape, which had been shown on the runway just weeks before.

Seeing Red: There’s no mistaking it: red ruled Oscar Night. Many chose to make this bold style statement. With her red strapless peplum dress by Louis Vuitton, Michelle Williams looked both on-trend and ‘smokin hot.

True Blue:  This serene shade had a strong presence on the red carpet. Everyone who sported it kept their silhouettes simple, letting the sophisticated, elegant color speak for itself. Just take a look at Best Actor winner Jean Dujardin’s wife, Alexandra Lamy.

Green With Envy: A green gown is a great way to stand apart from the pack, while not being too ‘look at me’. We’re envious over Glenn Close’s fresh-off-the-runway Zac Posen creation.

Blackout: Black is always a red carpet favorite for its dramatic effect. We’re loving the hand-sewn detailing on Jessica Chastain’s Alexander McQueen gown, and her soft hair and makeup as well.

Heavy Metal: With so many stars in attendance, it’s no wonder some want to shine. From gold and silver to copper, ladies in sparkly stunners were prevalent. Stacey Keibler looked ravishing Fall/Winter 2012 Marchesa, and we’re charmed by The Office’s Ellie Kemper’s unique Armani Privé look.

Who do you think stole the show?

Denby’s best-selling stoneware pattern comes to BTR

Any company that’s still going strong over 200 years after their inception must be doing something right.

Denby’s high-quality, everyday stoneware can be found gracing tabletops across the world. Every piece that hits store shelves has been designed with real life in mind; nothing is meant to be displayed in a china cabinet, never seeing use.  Everything is microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe, making it built to last.

We’re proud to announce the premiere Denby’s most popular pattern, Truffle, to BTR. The classic silhouettes and versatile neutral colors give it a timeless quality.

In today’s Denby event, we’re offering each item in the collection individually, or in sets of six. We love the idea of mixing and matching the pieces in the  Truffle, Truffle Wide Rim, and Truffle Layers lines for a look that’s modern and eclectic, but still manages to be cohesive.

Shop Denby, and find out why they’ve been a dining room mainstay since 1809.

Rock the socks and heels trend – BTR style

The pairing of socks with heels is an idea that started brewing on the world’s runways a few seasons ago, and the trend is still gathering steam.

This is a look that can be youthful and fun, or ladylike and chic, depending on how you choose to style it. Celebs have been sporting ankle and under-the-knee socks as a fashion-forward alternative to hose or bare legs.

It can be a tricky look to pull off, but when it’s done right, it’s smashing.

One thing’s for sure: this bold look is reserved for the daring girl who has real fun with fashion.

To create your own interpretation of the trend, shop Pump It Up for fierce footwear, and Betsey Johnson and More for whimsical and sassy legwear.

Oscar’s most outrageous looks

In magazines and on TV, it’s not uncommon that we hear experts applaud someone who takes risks with fashion – that is, if it’s done well. When a celeb steps out of their comfort zone, wears something unexpected and pulls it off, they wind up all over the internet and in the pages of magazines’ best-dressed lists.

The eyes of the world are focused on those who walk the red carpet on Oscar Night, making it either the best – or the worst – place to take a fashion risk. If it’s not done successfully, it can reach the level of Janet Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl ‘wardrobe malfunction’ – ridiculed and talked about for all the wrong reasons.

No doubt you’re familiar with these ensembles, but enjoy the walk down memory lane. We’re still talking about some of these looks – which is more than we can say about some of the safe, boring looks that have since been forgotten.

Hop into bed with Isaac Mizrahi

If you know fashion, you know Isaac Mizrahi.

From his must-see documentary that gave us all a behind-the-scenes look at exactly what goes into the making of a collection (Unzipped) to sitting on the judging panel of the current season of Project Runway All-Stars, Mizrahi has truly made his mark on the fashion world.

What you may not know is that he’s branched out into bedding. Featured in today’s Chic Bedding event, Isaac’s six-piece comforter set is available in two colors, both spring-perfect and totally on-trend for the season.

The set includes a comforter, two pillow shams, and three decorative pillows, letting you change up the look of your bedroom in a flash.

Visit the Chic Bedding event, and bring style guru Isaac Mizrahi into bed with you.

The most memorable fashions from Oscar Night

It’s award season, and the Academy Awards are on everyone’s mind. Who will take home the prize for Best Actor and Best Actress? What film will come out on top?

We’re curious too, but at BTR, we’re anticipating what everyone will wear even more. For many of us, the red carpet arrivals are just as exciting as the ceremony.

We had a hard time narrowing it down, but here’s the roundup of our favorite looks from Oscars past. They go back close to 60 years, and we’re certain they’ll still be considered elegant, breathtaking, and timeless for the next 60 years – and beyond.

Let’s hope the stars go all out this year – and bring on the glamour!

It’s time to refresh your home

With all the time you spend in your home, it can fade into the background of your life, so to speak. With this week’s Refresh Your Home events, it’s an amazing time to revitalize your space and bring it up to date.

Not sure how or in what room to get started? We’ve got a hot tip. A great way to create a pulled-together and cohesive look is to choose a concept you love, and place an element that ties into it in each room of your home. Could be something as basic as stripes or as specific as Art Deco-inspired mirrors – you’re sure to wind up with a homescape you can’t wait to show off.

Having a common thread that runs throughout the whole space will really give it a designer’s touch. We’ve chosen shades of blue as our idea to get you started.

When your wardrobe needs an update, you buy new clothes or accessories. Why shouldn’t it be the same for your home?
